ARRL FIELD DAY 2018 RESULTS

ARRL FD 2018 results have been posted and after looking at the total number of class 2A NEMRA club had the following results.
We had 497 total contacts; under 150 watts power, 11 participants; with a total of 2,168 points. There were a total of 35,250 participants with 2.903 clubs participating with a total of over 1.18 million contacts.
I counted a total of 282 2A entries and we were ranked at 135. That's well above the top half of the US and Canada (North America) that ran class 2A.
I know this is a far gap from 1st in 4F but you need to know that there were only 24 4F participating clubs this year. 11th place 4F and our score were compatible. With this in perspective, I am personally very pleased with what we did locally.
I think this was a great FD, we had a lot of fun, good food, and fellowship. Several hams got to get on the radio for the first time and log some radio time and get the experience they needed and wanted. Several of us learned some new things about the radios, antennas, and procedures.
Anyway, GREAT JOB to everybody that participated.
Now, its time to start thinking about 2019 Field Day.
Take care and God Bless.

2018 Christmas Donation for the Club

Acts 20:35
“ In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

This year we took on as our supported charity the Families First for Mississippi in Fulton, MS.

Today, Tommy Poole and I presented Buddy Collins with Families First of Mississippi in Fulton, MS with a donation from our members and club for $520 to use as they need during this Christmas time.

We are very happy and proud to help a local charitable organization with any assistance possible.

The entrance will be on the south side of the building, or the right side of the building if you are looking at the front doors. The heater has been serviced and is operational. Thanks to Buddy Collins and Tommy Poole for the help with that!!

Still not sure about a program for Tue night. We have a good bit of boring business that has to be discusses before the end of the year, but I will see what can be put together.

NON ATTENDING MEMBERSHIP QUESTION

Good afternoon all and I hope this posting finds you well and Blessed.
Please keep a thought and Prayer for Jim Miller with the Tupelo Club as his health has presented some serious issues over the last couple of weeks and he is improving, but all help is appreciated.

There has been a request for some type of announcement, after a question and approval at the last meeting, about membership for someone who is not able, expected to, or for some reason cannot attend the regularly scheduled club meeting on a regular basis. However, they wish to contribute to the club as a member and may be able to come to Saturday special meetings, presentations, field day, QSO party, etc.
It was agreed that this was a great idea and we want to extend to anyone that wants to join the club and participate when available, to please go to www.w5nem.org and look on the right side of the top of the page under "other pages / links" and go to the  "NEMRA MEMBERSHIP Application". Please print this and submit either by mail, to the address below (along with applicable yearly dues) or another member and we will get you on the member roll.
Also, please forward this to anyone you feel it may apply to and PLEASE if anyone wants to be added to the email listing PLEASE reply to "nemra.Inc@gmail.com" and request to be added to the contact list for future emails.
Take care and God Bless.

October 2018 License Testing

Its that time again.
We will have a testing session so this is just a reminder that we will be testing on Saturday October 20th, 2018 (third Saturday) for new amateur radio license and upgrade existing license for radio enthusiast and current ham radio operators. We will be at the Old Fulton Grammar School located at 603 South Cummings Street, Fulton, MS. We will begin testing about 9 am and continue until about 11 am. If no one shows for testing by 9:30 we will close testing for the day. If you are prepared and interested in taking your Technician, General, or Extra test, please come on up. No fee required, please bring two forms of ID one needs to be a photo (ie, drivers license) and any CSCE's (certificates of completion) you have earned and/or a copy of your current license if applicable.
If you are testing for the Technician license, PLEASE, go to the FCC web page and apply for a FRN before you test. Here is the web page:
https://apps.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do
Bring your FRN number with you for the testing paperwork, as we would rather have this than your Social Security information.
Please contact Chuck at chuck@selectconnect.net or Bobby at w1law@yahoo.com for more information or notification that you intend to test that day.
Please go to www.laurelvec.com for more testing sessions for your area.
We look forward to seeing you there and Good Luck!!

October 2018 meeting

Our Monthly Meeting is this coming Tuesday night, Tuesday October 9th, 2018 at our meeting room located at the Old Fulton Grammar School located at 603 South Cummings Street in Fulton, MS. The entrance will be on the south side of the building, or the right side of the building if you are looking at the front doors. There is also parking in the back and is accessed from S Clifton Street.
((((We have a new air conditioner and it will be comfortable for the meeting so 'heat' will not be an excuse for not coming.))))
We will begin at the normal time of 6:45 PM and will be discussing old business, new business, etc. Also it's that time of the year to start looking into the 2019 NEMRA Club officers and a nominating committee will be designated to follow through with this. If you want to volunteer please let me know prior to the meeting.
Please, please, PLEASE, everyone try and attend the meeting. Our attendance has gone way down during the summer and we need to try and pick it back up if possible. Try and bring a friend, member or not, to the meeting and program.
The program will be on "repurposing of old computer power supplies for amateur radio use". We are going to go over how to take an old computer power supply and use it for a power supply for ham radio applications. I am going to have 2-3 power supplies and we are going to modify them at the meeting to show how easy is it to get a usable 12 volt power supply to use with mobile type VHF-UHF transceivers as a base or any other application you might find useful.
We look forward to seeing those who can make it out.
Take care and God Bless.

Sept 2018 meeting

Wednesday, September 5, 2018

Good Afternoon Everyone!!

I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable Labor Day weekend with your friends and family.

Our next meeting is coming up on the 17 Anniversary of Sept 11, 2001 and I want all of us to be mindful and reminded of the cost that is paid by not only the military, and the local first response personal, but by the civilians who were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Evil and Terrorism have no conscience, no guilt, no preference, or no feelings. Remember those that lost their lives that Sept 11th day and those that are still losing their lives from that tragic event. I see first response personal every few weeks listed as dying from cancer and medical problems related to the murders and attacks on our country on September 11th, 2001.

Tommy Poole has been talking with Mr. Buddy Collins with the Family First in the same building we are sharing and they are renovating the room next to ours and have had a A/C unit installed. After hearing about the heat, etc., he has graciously offered their air-conditioned room for our meeting this upcoming Tuesday night if the heat persists. We will be meeting at the same location and just move to their room at 7PM for our meeting. We will discuss the A/C options and hopefully make a decision on purchase so we can have it ready by next meeting in October.

Summer is about over and I look forward to seeing some of you at the meeting that have had other programs and obligations over the summer and having you return and joining us for the fellowship and meeting.

I will try and prepare a small program for next Tuesday night but in case I don’t get it done, we will have a shorter meeting than usual.

We are closing in on the end of the year so we need to be thinking about club officers and who is going to take on those responsibilities for the ensuing year of 2019.

Well, that’s all for now folks and again I look forward to seeing each of you at the next meeting and participating on the wise use of funds for this air conditioner project. I anticipate between $400-$600 will be spent on this A/C unit. All ideas and comments are welcome even if they are subversive to the harmony of the club. (Haha) A little laugh for, well, you know who you are.

God Bless and See you next Tuesday 09/11/2018

Aug 14 meeting CANCELLED!!!!!

Ok all. I have gone to the meeting room and I believe that it is just going to be too hot to have the meeting this coming Tuesday night. Therfore we are going to cancel the meeting for August 14th 2018.
I have spoken with a couple of other officers and members and I think this is the right move until we get the a/c issue resolved or the summer heat goes away.
Please let others know about the cancellation and I will send an email to discuss this in s little more depth.
Sorry for the update.
If you need to contact me please feel free to do so.

July 2018 Testing

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are having a good weekend and trying to stay cool.
We had three come and test yesterday in Fulton and we had a very successful testing session.
Ended up with a new technician, a general upgrade, and an extra upgrade. I will post call signs and upgrades tomorrow after they are posted on theFCC database.

The VE’s are very happy with the new Laurel VE Group testing procedures and the testing operation and results. We are considering going to 6 testing sessions a year, with one every other month to accommodate more new operators and upgrades for current operators.
We would like some input to see if this is a good option for everyone or if we need to stay as is.

Well thats all for now so stay COOL and see you on the air.
