Weekly Weather Net Reminder

Reminder for all local amateurs.
The local SkyWarn weather net will meet tonight (Thursday) at 7pm on the Fulton repeater, 145.450 (-.6) offset and a pl tone of 192.8.
We look forward to any amateur radio operator or station who wishes to participate.
Thanks for checking in the net.
The simple check in not only gives you a chance to see what the net control is looking for in a weather event but it lets the club judge how the repeater is operating.
See y'all tonight and 73 to all!!

Primarily for Facebook but needs to be shared here also.
Hello everyone. We would really like to get 1,000 followers by the end of the year. We have over 700 as of now. We want to thank all of you for your participation, likes, shares, and comments. We strive to be a as informative as possible and open with our events and postings as a ham radio club. Please share our page with others and help us achieve this goal and ask them to LIKE our page. We have a weekly weather net locally on the 145.450 repeater in Fulton, Thursday nights at 1900 hours (7pm) and if you don't have a license then put us in your scanner. Weather events pop up and information is the key to survival. We have a monthly meeting on the second Tuesday of the month at 1830 hours (630 PM) in Fulton at the Old Grammar School on South Cummings St, entry at the south door of the building. Participation is coming back and hopefully we get some good programs lined up for the near future. You don't have to be a licensed amateur radio operator to come, just a desire as an enthusiast. Also, you can keep a watch on the www.w5nem.org blog site for those who don't participate in social media but want to stay informed of local ham radio events. Thank you again for your support and participation. NEMRA.INC

Sat VE Testing (continued)

As stated in an earlier email/post, we had a Fulton area ham come and test for his amateur extra and pass. The information was published yesterday on the FCC site.
CONGRATULATIONS to Michael Angle (KI5YFH)!!!
From looking at his history Michael has gone from the first test, the technician exam to his Amateur Extra exam in 27 days!! WOW!!
If you know Mike or hear him on the air, say hello and welcome him to the hobby, oh and he said he was getting a radio soon!! LOL!

Saturday VE Testing

We had a Fulton resident, non member, come in this morning and take and pass his Amateur Extra (Element 4) test. I will post a more formal release on the Facebook and Blog page when his license has been updated by the FCC and is made public.
Thanks to Tommy, Jerry, and Jeff for coming out and filling in the VE spots this morning. Without the VE's (volunteer examiner) help we could not perform this service.
Also, thanks to the club and its members for supporting the Laurel VEC Group, and the local VE's and and their volunteer duties they take on and perform.
Take care and 73.
Bobby/W1LAW.

ARRL News | New FCC Application Fee Will Not Apply To Amateur Radio License Upgrades

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) staff has clarified in response to an ARRL request that the new $35 application fee will not apply to most license modifications, including those to upgrade an Amateur Radio Licensee’s operator class and changes to club station trustees. The FCC staff explained that the new fees will apply only to applications for a new license, renewal, rule waiver, or a new vanity call sign. As previously announced, the new fees take effect on April 19, 2022.
“We are pleased that the FCC will not charge licensees the FCC application fee for license upgrade applications,” said ARRL Volunteer Examiner Coordinator (VEC) Manager Maria Somma, AB1FM. “While applicants for a new license will need to pay the $35 FCC application fee, there will be no FCC charge for future upgrades and administrative updates such as a change of mailing or email address. Most current licensees therefore will not be charged the new FCC application fee until they renew their license or apply for a new vanity call sign.”
ARRL previously reported that the new $35 application fee for Amateur Radio licenses will become effective on April 19, 2022. Further information and instructions about the FCC Application Fee are available from the ARRL VEC
