SKYWARN TRAINING!!!! Fulton, MS Oct 28, 2019

SEVERE STORM PROGRAM SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 28, 2019

Storm observing, reporting procedures, and safety to be emphasized

The fall severe weather season is approaching. Are you ready for whatever is in store? Do you
have a severe weather plan at your home and your workplace? Can you recognize the clues that
suggest large hail, flash flooding, or a tornado is possible? Do you want to become part of the
severe weather warning system in your county?

As part of its area-wide weather preparedness campaign, the National Weather Service in
Memphis will answer these and many other questions at the Skywarn storm spotter training
program on Monday, October 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. The program will be in Fulton at the
Benjamin Fine Arts Auditorium on Itawamba Community College’s Fulton Campus, and is held
in partnership with Itawamba County ARES and Itawamba County Emergency Management.

The program will discuss thunderstorm formation, severe weather production, and features
associated with severe storms. The presentation will also review tornado formation and
behavior, non-threatening clues which may be mistaken for significant features, and spotter
operations. The program will discuss recommended storm reporting procedures and safety when
storms threaten. The two-hour presentation will be in multimedia format, featuring numerous
pictures of storms and nearly 25 minutes of storm video clips.

The network of trained storm spotters plays an important role in Itawamba County. “We could
not do our job as well as we do without storm spotters”, said Gary Woodall, Warning
Coordination Meteorologist at the Memphis NWS Office. “Real-time reports from storm
spotters play a huge role in our warnings. Radar and satellite are great tools, but they only tell us
part of a storm’s story. The combination of spotter reports and electronic data gives us the best
possible picture of the storms and what’s going on inside them.”

The program is free and open to the public. “By coming to this program, you will learn a lot
about thunderstorms”, Woodall said. “Even if you don’t become an active storm spotter, you
will learn about how storms work and the visual clues to look for when storms are in your area.
This will better prepare yourself and your family for the threats that storms pose”.

The Itawamba County severe weather program is one of 15 that the Memphis NWS Office will
conduct from late September through early November. The National Weather Service in
Memphis provides forecasts, warnings, and weather services for 55 counties across the Mid-
South. For more information on severe weather and the National Weather Service, visit the
Memphis Forecast Office’s website at http://www.weather.gov/Memphis, our Facebook page at

Local Repeater NEWS!!!

Good evening all.

NEWS-NEWS-NEWS-NEWS

Chuck (N5VGK) and Joe (AB5OR) have been busy the past few days with some repeater updates and allocations. We have been asked to get this information out for the club and others in the ham radio community.
Effective immediately, the 444.950 D-Star repeater in Tupelo/Auburn is now a full time DMR repeater. If you need help setting up a DMR radio with the repeater info got the N5VGK DMR repeater, please email Joe or Chuck about the needed settings for the repeater. Also, in the time slot 1 is a connection to the National Weather Service in Memphis so when the weather service gets on Talk Group 31471, we hear it without linking. So when we get weather in the area, they are asking for reports and they are giving real time updates for us and other nets that are opened up during severe weather. They also ask for check ins, name, location, etc.
Time Slot 1 is for general linking and Time Slot 2 is for local (TG9) and MS Statewide (3128)
Not wanting to stop DStar service for the area, Chuck, Eric, and Joe have put the 146.835 repeater on DStar. You will need to modify your radios for the call-sign K5LLO instead of the W5NEM as before. Some had this repeater listed as Bonneville ETV. Remember it will look like K5LLO C. So the K5LLO C(for VHF) K5LLO G (other setting on the channel list), and K5LLO CL (for linking). Also remember that you have to have the L in the eight character to link.
Hope this information is helpful.
We will be having a DMR meeting sometime in the near future possibly in junction with the Area51 Group for anyone wanting to get up to speed with the DMR radios and repeaters.
All for now,
73 and God Bless!!

April 2019 meeting

Just taking a moment to remind you of our April meeting at the Fulton club tomorrow Tuesday April 9th, 2019. We don't have a lot of business so barring something coming up, Chuck is going to put on a demo with the new Flex 6600M. We will have a live station for demo an other will have the opportunity to look at this cutting edge SDR radio.
Other clubs have requested this type of demo and I thought it was an opportunity to let some of the NEMRA members to have a take on it.
See you there, and remember we start at 6:30 PM.
Keep a watch on the weather tonight and possible later on this week for some storms.
Take care and God Bless!!

145.490 and 444.825 repeaters.

PSA.
The 145.490 repeater is temp out of service and may or may not go back online. If so at a greatly reduced output power.
Chuck Moffatt  (N5VGK) has put the 444.825 repeater back online to compensate for the loss of the 490 machine. There is no tone right now and a normal +5 mghz split for the input.
We at NEMRA would like to thank Chuck for all that he does for local amateur radio and if you see him please bestow a gratuitous “Thank You” for allowing us the use of his repeaters. He does this as a hobby but when it effects his business, he has to prioritize fun for business. Sometimes fun losses out.
Please use the 444.825 repeater at your convenience and help Chuck see about the range ect to gauge the repeaters effectiveness.
Thanks and 73.
